Hebrews 7:25
25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. (NIV)
This is a question we might not ask about God. What does God live for? It seems strange, perhaps because of the infinite nature of God. He has always been. He will always be. Nothing can destroy Him. He is the impetus of all things. He has no choice but to live. He has no time limits, no deadlines, no possibility of failure. We could quickly put Him into the box of Deism, where His existence has no purpose outside creation. A deistic view reduces God to an observer and no more. Yet, our passage today gives us the opposite depiction. He is living for something. He has goals. He has deadlines. He cannot fail, this is true. But like a loving parent, He lives for His children so they will not fail. He lives to intercede.
To intercede for another is to work with great effort to help them emerge into their most refined ethos. It is securing all that is needed for their highest form of flourishing. Jesus lives to accomplish His highest goal of your most beautiful life.
Every moment of every day, Jesus seeks the Father’s provision knowing what we need to reach joy unspeakable, full of glory. On our behalf, He petitions the Father for protection, supply, love, and the right amount of discipline. The omniscient nature of Christ allows Him to know each of us like His own face. He never needs an assessment meeting. He does not call for consultants. There is no need for a brainstorming session. He knows what we need more than we know what we need.
You living the most abundant life is the passion of Christ. He will do whatever it takes. He already proved this on the cross. Never imagine yourself without help. From the heights of Heaven, Jesus is moving Heaven and Earth to give you the help you need. He lives to intercede for You. You are never helpless because He is Your help. You never lack what you need because He has been gathering the necessary provision for you since before you were born. His greatest passion is working for you. Your help is already on the way. Who else loves us like this? No one but Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, I praise You as the only One who loves me like this. Thank you for diligently pursuing the provision I need each moment. Thank you for Your tireless love for a sinner like me. Amen.
