It’s easy to forget that Jesus was a man, human, like us all. He was also entirely God. He is the Man Christ. The most unique being in existence, Jesus was completely God and completely man. Never was He half man and half God, nor any other fraction. He was 100% God and 100% man. Why does this matter? What difference does it make?
1 Timothy 2:5-6
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. (NIV)
Jesus is 100%, God. Christ had the authority of God. The Scripture plainly says that nothing has been made without Christ. He is God. He is the Creator. He set up the system. Have you noticed that since Creation, the world has continued on its own? It has produced and reproduced over and over again. It is self-sustaining. It is a system. Jesus is the authority over the system. This is important because He also established the systems of life and death. He is the King overall. He established the law of sin and death and He established the law of the Spirit of Life. Only God could intervene in the system. Only He had that authority. When God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, who was God, this was something that God and God alone had the authority to do. The system had already been set and those who sinned would earn the wage of eternal death. But God interrupted the system and God alone was Master of the system. Without God intervening in the system, we would have no hope.
Only the One who established the system could intervene in the system…
He intervened by coming Himself in the 2nd Person of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit came upon Mary and she was with child. God did this. No one else had the authority nor the power. Only the one who established the system had the authority to make adjustments.
Jesus is 100% Man. We really enjoy the fact that we live in the New Covenant period where we don’t have to be perfect, but we need only faith in Christ and the works that are evidence of that faith to be delivered from the law of sin and death. But God did not do away the system of life and death. He did not simply give mankind a pass. Instead, He became man and then resisted every sin for every moment of His 33 years on this Earth. Can you imagine not sinning, ever, for 33 years? And imagine the temptation of a man who knew He could do anything. He could create anything He wanted at any time. He was God without temptations, but He made Himself man who was tempted in every way (Hebrews 4:15). He fulfilled the law on behalf of mankind just as Adam had broken the law on behalf of man. A man had to do this in order to undo what a man had done. Jesus had to become a man.
Jesus is the only Hope for the world!
He was the Man Christ. There were no other possibilities by which man might be saved. Only God could intervene in the system He created and only a man could undo what a man had done. Jesus, the Man Christ is the only hope of mankind. He is the only hope we have ever had and He is the only hope we will ever have. No other man could completely fulfill all the law without sin on behalf of mankind and there is no other God besides our God, the Creator who made everything in the beginning and the Savior who made all things new again.
