The Only Revelation

No one has ever seen God. It is impossible to know God unless He is revealed and Jesus is our revelation. He is the only revelation.

We live in a world where God is credited with so many things from miracles to war and from political campaigns to mass shootings. We may think it impossible for us to be fooled by any of these things but many Christians have been fooled.

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day had the people convinced that God was judgmental and angry. But their god was not the True God. It’s easy to listen to someone we believe to be righteous and holy and be fooled by what they say. Regardless of someone’s title, credentials, or followers, we must still test what they say and do with the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. The only perfect revelation of God is Christ Himself.

Megachurch pastors and unknown pastors such as myself can still get it wrong. Scripture reminds us it is spiritual and must be taught but we must always compare everything to Christ no matter how celebrity a pastor has become.

On the other side, we must never let what people, Christians, do cause us to be put off by God. They are not the revelation of God. Christ and He alone is where we must fix our eyes. We need good teachers but we mustn’t idolize anyone but Jesus Christ.

One of the main reasons people turn cold toward God is their disappointment in how a Christian behaves. So many have asked me how a Christian can act this way or that and that person’s behavior was disrupting their own faith. The answer is always the same. Those people are not Jesus. He is the only revelation.

Prayer: Lord, spur me to read Scripture more and pray more to know you well. Give me good teachers but remind me always they are still not you. Amen.
